Atlanta Braves — as of April 9, 2017

2017/04/12

Up:

Jace Peterson. 2B, 3B, OF: April 10 With OF Matt Kemp on the 10-day DL, it looks like Jace Peterson will get most of the playing time in LF for the Braves.

Emilio Bonafacio, OF: April 10 While Matt Kemp’s injury will provide more playing time for Jace Peterson, Emilio Bonafacio should also get a bit more playing time in the Braves’ OF and possibly at 2B, too, as backup Jace Peterson takes over the bulk of Kemp’s duties in LF.

Adonis Garcia, 3B: April 8 – It looks like Adonis Garcia will move into Matt Kemp’s cleanup spot in the batting order while Kemp is out of action.

Kurt Suzuki, C: April 9 – It appears that Kurt Suzuki and Tyler Flowers will be splitting the Braves’ Catcher duties more or less evenly, which is a bit of a boost for Suzuki’s stock.

Arodys Vizcaino, RP: April 2 – With Mauricio Cabrera starting the season on the DL, Arodys Vizcaino should have the bulk of the setup opportunities to himself as well as being positioned to take over the Closer’s role if Jim Johnson should falter.

Down:

Tyler Flowers, C: April 9 – It appears that Kurt Suzuki and Tyler Flowers will be splitting the Braves’ Catcher duties more or less evenly, dropping Flowers’ stock to a certain degree.

In:

Johan Camargo, SS: Apr 11 – 3:57 PM (Rotoworld) – With Matt Kemp on the 10-day DL, the Braves have recalled INF Johan Camargo from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Out:

Sean Rodriguez, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, OF: Feb 26 – 8:17 AM (Rotoworld)Out for the season. Braves placed INF Sean Rodriguez on the 60-day disabled list with a left shoulder injury.

Rodriguez won’t play this season after injuring his shoulder in a car crash and having surgery to repair a badly torn rotator cuff and labrum damage as well as relocating a biceps tendon.

Matt Kemp, OF: Apr 11 – 3:55 PM (Rotoworld)Braves placed OF Matt Kemp on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to April 8, with a strained right hamstring.

Kemp tweaked his hamstring Friday against the Pirates and still isn’t quite right, though the hope is he’ll be ready for activation when first eligible on April 18.

Mauricio Cabrera, RP: Apr 2 – 11:13 AM (Rotoworld) — Braves placed RHP Mauricio Cabrera on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to March 30, with right elbow inflammation.

Cabrera doesn’t have any structural damage, but the Braves will be careful with him. The hard-throwing right-hander will be used in a setup role once he’s ready.

Apr 5 – 5:27 PM (Rotoworld) — Mauricio Cabrera (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Monday, April 10.

Cabrera came down with discomfort in his right elbow near the end of spring training and was subsequently shuttled off to the 10-day disabled list to start the season. He has played catch twice without issue and will now ramp matters up with Monday’s impending bullpen session.

Should that go off without a hitch, he could begin a minor league rehab assignment shortly thereafter.

The flame-throwing 23-year-old is expected to serve as a set-up man to closer Jim Johnson once healthy.
