Michael Lorenzen, RP: Apr 13 – Michael Lorenzen is off to an impressive start as the Reds primary Setup man. He’s allowed just two hits and a walk in 6 innings of work, while striking out 7 batters, notching two Holds and picking up a Win. recalled RHP Barrett Astin from Triple-A Louisville.

Down:

No one.

In:

Barrett Astin, RP: Apr 12 – 2:41 PM (Rotoworld) — Reds recalled RHP Barrett Astin from Triple-A Louisville.

Astin started the year on the Reds bullpen but was sent down to the minors on April 8 when the club called up Bronson Arroyo to serve as their fifth SP. The 25-year-old right-hander will return to a middle relief role.

Out:

Devin Mesoraco, C: Apr 2 – 11:03 AM (Rotoworld) — Reds placed C Devin Mesoraco on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to March 30, with right hip surgical recovery.

Things went well for Mesoraco this spring as he worked his way back from hip and shoulder surgeries, but he’s not ready for a regular workload yet. Tucker Barnhart will be the Reds’ primary catcher for a while.

Apr 5 – 7:09 PM (Rotoworld) — Devin Mesoraco (hip, shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Double-A Pensacola on Thursday.

“We’ll get him to where he’s catching back-to-back nine-inning games before we consider activating him. Until we get to that place, it’s hard to say how long it will be,” said Reds manager Bryan Price. While he wouldn’t put a date on Mesoraco’s return, Price did say that the backstop is unlikely to need all 20 days allotted for the rehab assignment. Assuming no setbacks, he could rejoin the Reds in late April or early May. Mesoraco has been limited to just 39 games played over the past two seasons due to hip and shoulder surgeries.

Apr 11 – 5:12 PM (Rotoworld) — Reds manager Bryan Price said Tuesday that he anticipates Devin Mesoraco (hip, shoulder) joining the active roster around April 17-20.

Mesoraco caught a full nine innings Monday in a rehab game with Double-A Pensacola and reported feeling good. Now the big test will be catching back-to-back nights.

Anthony DeSclafani, SP: Apr 2 – 10:54 AM (Rotoworld) — Reds placed RHP Anthony DeSclafani on the 10-day disabled list with a right elbow sprain.

It’s a bit encouraging that they didn’t go ahead and place him on the 60-day DL, although it also might ultimately not matter. DeSclafani is still in shutdown mode after receiving a Platlet-Rich Plasma injection for his ailing elbow and he’ll miss at least the first month of the season.

Apr 5 – 1:36 PM — Reds transferred RHP Anthony DeSclafani from the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The Reds needed to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Tyler Goeddel, who was claimed off waivers from Philadelphia. DeSclafani is still recovering from a sprained right elbow. The hope is that he’ll resume throwing later this month.

Homer Bailey, SP: Feb 8 – 2:42 PM (Rotoworld) — Homer Bailey will be shut down for 4-6 weeks after undergoing surgery to remove bone spurs from his throwing elbow.

The expectation is that he’ll begin the season on the disabled list. Bailey made his return from Tommy John surgery last year and posted a rough 6.65 ERA over six starts before being shut down with biceps tendinitis. It’s hard to be optimistic about him with 2017 already off to a rough start, but at least his ulnar collateral ligament and flexor mass are said to be fine.

Feb 14 – 1:42 PM — Reds placed RHP Homer Bailey on the 60-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.

The move clears a spot for the newly-claimed Nefi Ogando on the 40-man roster. Bailey underwent surgery last week to remove bone spurs from his right elbow and hopes to make it back at some point in June.

Rookie Davis, SP: Apr 12 – 2:39 PM (Rotoworld) — Reds placed RHP Rookie Davis on the 10-day disabled list with a bruised right forearm.

Davis was struck on the arm by a Jameson Taillon pitch while trying to pull back on a bunt attempt in the fifth inning Tuesday. The 23-year-old right-hander owns a 6.43 ERA and 1.86 WHIP through two starts this season for Cincinnati. He should be ready to return in 10 days, assuming it’s really just a bruise.

Nefi Ogando, RP: Apr 2 – 11:00 AM (Rotoworld) — Reds placed RHP Nefi Ogando on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to March 30, with a right hand strain.

It’s unclear how long Ogando will be on the shelf. He’ll be used as a middle reliever once healthy.
